Reference boards

Boards that report your zones without you writing firmware.

We write and maintain the firmware for these. Flash one from your browser and it starts sending enter and exit events against the zones you drew — no firmware work, no geofence maths.

Setup runs in desktop Chrome or Edge and needs a free Polyfence account — the wizard mints the device’s key. Building on the C library needs neither.

The roster

What you can flash today — and what’s next.

Everything in the first group works end to end through the setup wizard right now. The difference that matters inside it is how the board reports once it is set up: on its own, or only while the setup page is open. Each card says which.

Flash today

Plug the board into your computer, run the setup wizard, and it is on your account in a few minutes.

ESP32-C3 SuperMini

Espressif (generic / various) · ESP32-C3

The cheapest way to see Polyfence working end to end. WiFi and native USB, but no GPS on board — add a GPS module before it can report where anything actually is.

ReportsOn its own over WiFi — add a GPS module first

Seeed Wio Tracker L1

Seeed Studio · nRF52840

Battery-powered tracker with LoRa SX1262, GPS and a small screen. Letting it report over LoRaWAN on its own is on our list.

Heltec Wireless Tracker V2

Heltec Automation · ESP32-S3

The one to buy if you want it running unattended. ESP32-S3 with LoRa SX1262, UC6580 GPS and a 0.96-inch colour screen that names the zone it just entered.

WiFiLoRaBLEGPSScreenBattery

LilyGo T-Echo Lite

LilyGo · nRF52840

Wearable, worker-safety form factor. nRF52840 with LoRa SX1262 and L76K GPS. Same chip family as the Wio Tracker L1, so the same geofencing runs unchanged — only the size and shape differ.

LilyGo T-Beam

LilyGo · ESP32

The most-asked-for ESP32 board for asset and livestock tracking — 18650 battery holder, LoRaWAN radio and GPS. Positions reach the map over LoRaWAN through your own gateway, and crossings recorded out of coverage are delivered when the device comes back in range. Flash it from the browser and it is on air.

Not flashable yet

The wizard will not flash these today. Each card says how far its firmware actually is — some are written, some have not been started.

LilyGo T-SIM7080G-S3

LilyGo · ESP32-S3

Cellular tracker for vehicles, fleets and lone workers. ESP32-S3 with a SIM7080G LTE-M / NB-IoT modem and GPS — it will report over the mobile network directly, with nothing in between. Bring your own SIM and data plan.

WiFiCellularBLEGPSBatterySolar

Firmware code-complete (cellular link + durable offline queue); bench bring-up under way

Your own hardware

None of these has to be your board.

The C library, not the board

The roster is a curated set, not the ceiling. Polyfence is a geofence layer before it is a tracker: the same zones you draw here run on hardware you already have, through a portable C library that needs nothing but a C compiler and the standard maths library. It compiles for nRF52, ESP32, STM32 and RP2040 — and needs no account, no wizard and no dashboard.

If your board can reach the internet over WiFi, cellular or LoRa, it can run Polyfence.
